A beach day in Noosa

Last night was interesting: we went to bed and kept the tent open to let the breeze go through until the smell of smoke became too much (more on this later).
This morning, we (well, I) woke up at 5 am thanks to the birds and the cars that kept going up and down. You would have thought we were next to the highway, but no, just the boat ramp and apparently everyone was putting their boat in the water that early. By 6 something we were out of the tent ready to have coffee and breakfast. Today was going to be a beach day: the first since the trip.
IMG_0830We decided to go take a look at the main beach in Noosa since the beach at the campground was way, way too small. David wanted to check the waves because he was thinking about renting a surf board and go surfing (note here: he’s never done it before). We got the very last parking spot in the public lot near the beach and decided to stay there.
IMG_0825Dave rented his board and I plopped myself on the very nice beach for some R&R: sun and a book was all I needed to entertain myself for quite a while. While David tried his luck with the surfboard I laid on the beach reading my book and getting sandblasted. The beaches here seem to be always windy, which makes it really nice since it doesn’t get too hot, as long as you don’t mind the light sandblasting.
After Dave’s time with board was up, we were both happy to go in the shade and away from the sand: I could deal with it, but he hates sand with a passion, so we left and went to get ice cream. While we were eating it, we both giggled at the fact that it was December 20 and we just swam and were eating ice cream. Yes I could definitely live in a place that doesn’t have winter (have I mentioned this before?)
After the ice cream we got back to the campground to shower and get all the stickiness off of us and our clothes: yup, time for some laundry for the last week of the trip. We sat all afternoon in the shade and the cool breeze. We chatted with our neighbors and figured out the cause of the smoke: no, it wasn’t the punk kids having a bonfire on the beach (as I thought last night) but sadly a bush fire that is burning since last Saturday across the water. We looked out and saw the smoke. Hopefully they’ll get it under control soon; apparently there are no homes in that area, but still.
For those who are curious about what it looks like to live out of your car for 16 days, here we go. From left to right: the storage room, for cameras, our small backpacks and whatever doesn’t fit in the trunk (water, snacks and miscellaneous stuff on the floor); in the middle is my closet and the pantry/kitchen (aka the black suitcase with my clothes and the black duffel bag with dried food and kitchen stuff); on the right is the trunk or Dave’s closet and fridge (aka the gray suitcase with his clothes and the cooler that will find it’s final destination in Brisbane). There you go!
